PUTTING PRIZE
Description
An antique F.L. Slazenger Hickory shafted putter hand-forged in Scotland mounted on Mahogany plaque. Inscribed as follows:
THIS BLADE TOO THIN. TOO LIGHT. TOO FAT.
TOO OLD. TOO NEW. TOO THIS. TOO THAT
FORGET THE SADNESS. JOY IT BRINGS.
IT MATTERS NOT, THE GAMES THE THING
History
In 1909 there were both putting and driving contests with pocket knives going to the winners. In 1911 Charles Lippincott gave a prize to be awarded to the winner of an 18 hole putting contest. Such a contest continues to be held annually at the conclusion of one of our regular golf outings, during the “happy hour” prior to our sit down meal.
How is it won
